1.TALC:known carcinogen

Talc is a natural mineral found in rocks. It is a risk when it is being contaminated by asbestos. Both talc and asbestos are present in the same condition. When we mine talc asbestos comes with it.

It is being used in powders, blushes, eye shadows and baby powders as well

Why avoid it ?

It usually absorbs moisture from the skin, preventing the skin from being too cakey. If inhaled it can cause cancer.

How to avoid it?

Talc is also given other names as “talcum powder” and  “magnesium silicate”

2.Fragrances:don’t know what inside

Fragrance is a combination of hundreds of thousands of ingredients to make a pleasing scented effect.

Where it is being used:

Used in strong scented products  usually shampoos, body washes, soaps and colognes

Why to avoid it?

Companies do not label the ingredients of their fragrance. They could have possible allergens, chemicals that you do not have any idea about.

Look out for the product containing “parfum” and “fragrance”

3.Parabéns :Hormone disruptors

Where is it used?

Parabens are the preservatives used in beauty products and skin care

Why to avoid it?

Parabens can cause hormonal imbalance leading to obesity, breast cancer, reproductive disorder Etc .It can pass through the skin in the bloodstream and the exposure to the skin surface can impact your health.

How to avoid it?

You can find similar ingredients listed as “isobutyl paraben,” “isopropyl paraben,” “propyl paraben” and “butyl paraben.

4.Formaldehyde:Allergen and carcinogen

Where is it used?

Formaldehydes are preservatives used in cosmetic products and skin care.

Why to avoid it?

It is a carcinogen and allergen for some people

How to avoid it?

It will be difficult for you to see at first but you can check the certain ingredients while purchasing for example;

Diazolidinyl urea,glyoxal,quaternium 15,paraformaldehyde,methyl glycol 

5.Polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS):Not a single chemical

Pfas are synthetic chemicals that could create smoothening texture in cosmetics 

Where is it used?

It is being used in foundations, bb creams, concealers, sunscreens

Why to avoid it?

They can interfere with your immune system, harming fetus ,and can cause cancer

How to avoid it?

Living in a cosmetic world it is hard to avoid PFA’s but we can see them as “ptfe ” or with the prefix“Perfluoro”

Lead ,Triclosan, phthalates, alcohol, toluene, carbon black, synthetic colors, diethanolamine, petrolatum and hydroquinone are also some toxins to look out .

It should not be a buyer's headache to always look for the harmful ingredient from tons of products on the shelves.
